When it came to pick between reality and fiction, photographer and artist Stéphanie Roland decided to abstain. On the contrary, combining these two dimensions allows her to create the image rather than desperately attempt to capture it. By brushing these traditional points of reference aside, the photographic reality that she offers dissolves the classic notion of time. Her multidisciplinary visual work has led her to design generative installations, as well as videos, and sculptures based on photographic stills. Her approach and the contemporary mediums used within her creative process – photo retouching, computer programming, and social networks – are the breeding ground for themes such as death, memory and authority.

Flight Memorial
Flight Memorial, a video projection on Plexiglas, stems from the combination of two antagonistic elements. In this installation, Stéphanie Roland questions the concept of stability and seeks to understand the meaning that lies within the building of a home. As a response, she has piled up architecture plans of houses, which are laser engraved in transparent Plexiglas. A projection of movie credits goes through the sculpture formed by the empty spaces of the cuttings. Or perhaps that projection might actually be based on an aviation blacklist? Whichever it may be, the mysterious halo that appears as a result is bound to keep you looking for a while.
