Fabian Oefner was 15 when he first laid hands on a camera. A year before, he had seen Harold Egerton's famous picture of a bullet piercing an apple, which fascinated him. The will to create impactful images has never left him since. The invisible effects of the natural sciences and the properties of time are at the very centre of the Swiss artist's creative process. Whether through a photographic series, an installation or a film, he strives to show us that art and science do not exist on opposite ends of the academic spectrum but rather inform each other in tangible ways.
By showing scientific phenomena in an unusual and poetic way, he invites the viewer to stop for a moment and appreciate the beauty that is constantly surrounding us. Fabian Oefner is constantly working out new and interesting ways to create his art, and if that even means disintegrating a car piece by piece, then so be it.
