Memo Akten is a London-based artist from Istanbul whose work explores the collisions between nature, science, technology, culture, ethics, traditions and religion. A truly multidisciplinary artist, he creates installations, performances, videos, sounds, light, dance, software, and online works. He creates data dramatisations of natural and anthropogenic processes by combining critical and conceptual approaches with investigations into form, light, sound, data and algorithms. He received the Prix Ars Electronica Golden Nica in 2013 and his works have been frequently exhibited around the globe: London, Moscow, Paris, Tel Aviv, Eindhoven, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Sao Paolo, Rio. Alongside his practice, he is currently working towards a PhD at Goldsmiths University of London in artificial intelligence and artistic, expressive human/machine interaction. Akten is a strong supporter of the open-source community and frequently contributes to the OpenFrameworks project.
